Week 15 Artist: Amy - Drawing and Painting

I interviewed an artist named Amy who is a BFA major who is graduating in drawing and painting. Her small paintings represent the conflict in her household, the paintings consist of views of her livingroom and bathroom. She started working with small canvas's because she would work with larger ones but they weren't working for her. She says that each small painting took her an hour to two hours to create. Amy also used to do sculptures.

Week 14 Artist Interview Khara Clourtier

May 2, 2014
Khara Clourtier's work is inspired by the idea that clothing conveys messages and is an expression of identity. She describes clothing as body landscaping and as evidence of the mental space we occupy. The goal of her work is to synthesize human geography with graphic design to clothe the body.

Week 14 Classmate: Daniella Gabriel

May 2, 2014
I interviewed Daniella Gabriel this week at the galleries. Daniella is from Downey like myself and I know her from highschool, we both went to Warren. She likes trees and the beach and she has a dog named candy. Daniella's major is child development and she is going to take classes to get into a pre PA program. She has a little brother in highschool and a place she has traveled to is Mexico.

Week 13 Interview: Selin Ari

I interviewed Selin Ari during Week 13's Art Galleries. Selin is 19, from Huntington Beach and is in her second year at Cal state Long Beach. She is a nursing major but plans to change to health care administration. Some things that Selin likes to do is go to the Beach, snorkel, and hike. She has one female cat who's name is coco. Week 13 Artist: Ron Pagenkopp

April 28, 2014
Ron is an artist that is in the graduate program at CSULB and works with animation. His exhibition for week 13 was called Retrospection. Ron says each of his pieces, such as the one below, takes aproximately fifteen hours to produce. He describes this body of work as a look at memories and experiences that define oneself. In his drawings, he reflects on his own memories that have led him to where he is. Ron has a job doing background design which he enjoys because he likes the freedom.

Week 12 Artist: Brenda

April 19, 2014

    Brenda is a 3d media major at Cal state Long Beach who works with wood to create objects. Brenda changed her major to the wood program this year. She would work with wood in her spare time anyway so she decided to start selling her work on her online site which she started last year. Brenda sells refurbished furniture on her online shop as well as whatever else she makes out of wood. Brenda likes to create functional things, like the snowboard she is currently working on.

Week 11 Artist: Luis Macias

April 11, 2014
Luis Macias's work consists of enameling to make metal and jewelry. He began enameling in 2012 and is interested in the unique colors and details of it and is especially interested in creating depth through multiple layers of translucent enamel. He has always been interested in space and he has incorporated it into making jewelery, with the inspiration of space shown in the asthetic characteristics of his work.

Week 11 Classmate: Karina Ramos

This week I interviewed a classmate named Karina Ramos. Karina is a native of Long Beach so she came to Cal State Long Beach for that reason. She is a freshmen and is planning to declare criminal justice as her major but is not sure what profession she will choose. Karina said she does not really have any hobbies but she used to play soccer. Week 10 Artist: Esteban Ramirez

I interviewed an artist this week named Esteban Ramirez that uses his pyrotechnic enthusiasm in his photography, the pyrotechnics provide light for his work. Esteban is apart of the western pyrotechnic association which he has been a member of for 5 years and they hold meetings and 3 events a year. His inspiration for this particular technique of photography was a seminar of the history of flash so he wanted to use different light sources in his pictures using fireworks.

Week 9 Classmate: Kim Aranda

I interviewed a classmate named Kim Aranda for week 9, she is a freshman at Cal State Long Beach from Fontana, where she commutes from. Kim is a currently undeclared major like me. She has three dogs named marshmallow, nicky and sophie. Kim likes to take pictures, bake, bowling, and likes to hike. I asked Kim why she chose Long Beach and she said she likes the campus and location and it also had the majors she was looking into.
